Earlier in the week, Kobe Bryant took to Twitter to ask his legion of fans if they knew what the word “Protro” meant. As expected, nobody gave a correct answer. So what does it mean? According to Kobe and Nike, the word is short for Performance Retro. It’s an updated version of a Nike sneaker that has been previously released, but containing their latest technology.
The first Kobe sneaker getting the “Protro” treatment is the legendary Nike Zoom Kobe 1. Dressed in black and yellow, the sneaker looks almost exactly like the originals. However, the heavier pieces on the original have been replaced by lighter material. You can take a look at the sneakers below. Keep your eye out for a release on February 17th through the SNKRS app and Nike.com.
